2016-07-30 Mt. Charleston

We decided to take Liam on a short trip up to Mt. Charleston, near Las Vegas.  It is much cooler here than in the valley and it is only a short distance away.

Two Fun Breakfasts at the hotel.

Took a short hike.  However, Nana and Papa weren't very organized and we didn't remember to bring water or sunscreen.  So it was a very short hike.

The hotel had a small pond in the front with some ducks that needed to be fed.

The scenery in the area was lovely.

2017 - Before we left LV

Lunch at Marie Callender's with Mom and Sis before Liam joined us for two weeks in Moraga.

2017-07-21 and 23 - Berkeley Adventure Playground and Chabot Science Center

We spent a day playing at the Berkeley Adventure Playground.  This free play playground is probably unique in the US in that it is structured and creative and some might consider it unsafe as it allows the children to work with hammers and nails and saws and to generally have a creative time.  Liam loved it.  They also had a short zip line that Liam spent lots of time riding.

One day Paul took Liam to the Chabot Science Center.  They had lots of interactive stations for teaching science and astronomy.  Liam played a lot of those, and even showed a couple of other kids what a coupe of the games were about.  And he spent a lot of time playing pinball on various pinball machines, as the center was having a display of many different types of pinball machines, all of which could be played.

2017 - July 24 to 28 - Classes

Liam took two classes at Orinda community center around Legos and video making.  And we also visited a few other local sites while he was here.  No photos or the video, however.

2017 - July 29 - Back to Las Vegas

On our way back to Las Vegas.  Ice Cream at Peggy Sue's Diner...

and taking a look at the desert.

Playing in the pool at home.

2018-06-15 - Visiting Josh and Vanessa

Next year, 2018, we drove Liam to Josh and Vanessa's for a weekend.

Heading to Josh and Vanessa's with Papa and Nana.

Liam spent the weekend with his uncle Josh and aunt Vanessa.
Having lunch and dessert with Uncle Josh and Aunt Vanessa.

2018 - July 18 - San Diego Wildlife Park

And then we drove to San Diego.
Our first day of our San Diego trip we headed outside of the city to the Wildlife Park.

Liam was interested in everything and all the animals.  Our very first encounter was with an ocelot that the handler brought out for everyone to see close.

We also walked by a number of enclosures where we saw a tiger,

a colony of meerkats with a sentry on the lookout for danger,

and ring-tailed lemurs from Madagascar.

We also stopped by a large aviary to see the California Condors.

Another aviary was home of a bald eagle.

At one point we took an open truck out onto the "plains" of the park.  Many species of animals roam together in this vast enclosure.

Baby Wildebeest

The enclosure included several types of wild cattle including the banteng,
and the gaur, both from southeast Asia/India.

We fed the giraffes (although Liam wasn't interested).

We also fed apple slices to the rhinos (again, Liam declined).

There were some crested cranes strutting around.  Very impressive plumage.

Then there was lunch...

a bit of time to play,

and a souvenir penny to make.

We wandered by several enclosures including the Australia enclosure,

the gorilla enclosure (where most of them were lounging in the shade to escape the hot sun),

and the endangered Przewalski's Horse (from Mongolia and Central Asia).
